SPEEDWAY 2011 UMP SPORTSMAN RULES
1.
UMP DirtCar
Sanctioned- The UMP Sportsman division is
sanctioned by UMP.
2.
GENERAL
A. A
domestic complete bodied car.
B. Rear
wheel drive only.
C. Stock
frames, uni-body cars allowed front to back.
D. Wheel
base 108-inch minimum.
E. No
station wagons, convertibles, Camaros, Firebirds, Mustangs, or Capris
3. APPEARANCE
A. Cars
must be neat in appearance and paint bright color.
B. Numbering
must be 18” high (any letters must be 9” high) with contrasting color. Numbers must be on both sides and on the
roof. No mirrored numbers.
C. Cars
must have TOW HOOKS front and rear.
Hooks must be visible and able
to support weight of vehicle.
D. Body
must be recognizable as a production vehicle. After market bumper covers may be
used.
4. EXTERIOR BODY
A. Must
have original appearing body panels,
B.
8” Rear deck spoiler allowed. No
spoiler on quarter panels.
C. All
doors must be welded shut.
D.
All glass and chrome removed. No
cutting of body parts to change from stock appearance, EXCEPT for wheel
clearance.
E. Gutting
of trunk and hood allowed. Rear body
must be enclosed. No open backend.
G. Bumpers must be welded to prevent loss. No sharp edges allowed. If ends are
cut off they must be capped. Minimum of 4 vertical bars in windshield with
1” maximum mesh screen covering
entire windshield.
H. Fenders
and hoods must have stock appearance.
I. Can
use stock bumper and header or after market front nose.
J.
All body panels must be steel: no aluminum, plastic or fiberglass roofs,
doors, quarters, fenders or deck lids
5. INTERIOR BODY
A.
Interior of car must be completely sealed from engine compartment.
B. Must have
a rear firewall.
C. No
uncovered batteries, fluid reservoirs or tanks in driver’s compartment.
D. No
mirrors, two way communications or electronic devices of any kind.
E. All bars
near driver must be padded.
6. FRAMES
A. Frames must match manufacturer of
body.
B.
No after-market tubing frame except behind the rear end hump. This means that only the flat part around
the fuel cell, after the hump that is over the rear end.
7. ROLL CAGE
A. 6
point full roll cage that may exceed past front of firewall.
B. Must be
welded 360 degrees.
C.
4 kicker bars on driver’s side door, 2 bars on passenger side door. .095 steel.
6 kicker bars allowed.
D. Padding
on roll cage within 30 inches of driver’s head.
8. SAFETY
A. Racing
seat required.
B.
5-part nylon quick-release harness and safety belt required. Must be in excellent working condition at
all times. Harnesses must be attached
to frame.
C.
Approved fire suit and gloves are mandatory.
Fireproof; hood, socks, shoes and underwear recommended.
D.
Full-face helmet is required with a lexan shield. Must be at least snell 85 approved.
E.
Driver side window net minimum of 12” X 12” with ¾ webbing is mandatory, MUST
be mounted to roll cage.
F.
An operational fire extinguisher properly mounted within
the driver’s reach is mandatory.
G.
Drive shaft loop required. Drive shafts
must be painted white, MUST be factory stock.
No aluminum drive shafts.
H. Dash mounted
engine kill switch.
I.
Battery must be securely fastened and contained away from fuel cell.
J.
Fuel cell must be secure and firmly mounted in the trunk area. Fuel line must run under floor and/or
covered in1 ½ inch tubing.
K. Must be approved
fuel cell—32-gallon maximum.
9.
CARBURETOR
A. One 2 or
4 Barrel carburetor. No dominators or
predators. 750 Holley permissible.
B.
Carburetor must have stock appearance.
C. Gas only.
No alcohol.
10. ENGINE
A. Engine
must be original equipment for the manufacturer of the car.
B.
#1 or first spark plug must be in C/L with upper ball joint. (MAXIUMUM SET BACK)
C. Cast iron
blocks and heads – no cubic inch limit.
D.
Fuel pump must be stock mechanical only.
E. NO
ELECTRIC FUEL PUMPS.
F. No
Magnetos allowed. MSD allowed.
G. Headers permitted.
H.
Mufflers are required. Noise
level may not exceed ________.
I. Exhaust pipes
must exit out past body behind driver’s seat.
J. Car
must have working starter and start under own power.
11. TRANSMISSION
A.
Must have working forward and reverse gears.
B.
Standard or automatic transmissions, mini clutches and direct drives are
okay. Standard flywheels must have
scatter shield or blanket.
C. Bert
and Brinn Transmissions allowed.
12. SUSPENSION
A. Front
and rear suspension as stock as possible, may be braced for safety.
B. Weight
jacks allowed.
C. Racing
shocks allowed—1 per wheel. (1 per corner)
D. No coil
overs allowed.
E. May
have quick release adapter on steering wheel.
F.
Upper and lower control arms must be nonadjustable.
G. Passenger
car type rear ends only, may mismatch manufacturers.
H. May run
floater rear ends.
I.
No J Bars or Pull Bars allowed.
13. BRAKES
A. Required
on at least 3 wheels, must be sufficient to stop car.
14. TIRES/WHEELS
A. Steel racing or wagon wheels only.
B. 8” wheel width maximum.
C. 1” lug nuts on all wheels.
D. Beadlock
permitted on right side front and rear, and left rear.
E.
Street tire 2.55 x 60 x 15 maximum. (60
minimum)
F.
No recaps or McCreary allowed. Open Wheel Modified Hoosiers allowed: A’s &
H’s only. Ds permitted on left front only.
G. Tire and
wheel must not extend past stock body panel.
H. Size must
be legible on outer side of tire.
15. WEIGHT
A. Must weigh 3200 minimum with driver at all times.

for the conduct of the sport and are in no way guaranteed against injury of
death to a participant, spectator or official.
The race
director shall be empowered to permit reasonable and appropriate deviations
from any of the specifications herein or impose and further the restrictions
that in his opinion do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements. NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF
SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATION OF SPECIFICATIONS. Any interpretation or deviation of these
rules is left to the discretion of the officials. THEIR DECISION IS FINAL.
