June Jam Fast Facts
and Tidbits
-Eddie
Carrier, Jr. of Salt Rock, West Virginia was the inaugural June Jam winner in
2002 over Darrell Lanigan, Rick Corbin, Joey Daniel, and James Huff. If Corbin had won both nights, he would have
gotten a $1,000 bonus for winning on Friday and Saturday nights. The win by Carrier, Jr. would help the
second generation racer claim the inaugural Battle of the Bluegrass Series
championship back in 2002.
-The
2003 version of the June Jam saw Darrell Lanigan of Union, KY follow up a win
in the Eldora Dream the weekend before with an impressive performance in the
2003 June Jam event. Steve Barnett,
Steve Landrum, Whitney McQueary, and Bryan Barber completed the top five.
-The
2004 edition of the June Jam fell victim to Mother Nature as continuous
afternoon rain showers forced promoters David and Anita Ferrell to cancel the
event around 4:00 p.m. that afternoon with well over 30 entries already sitting
in a rain soaked pit area.
-The
2005 June Jam was once again a victim of Mother Nature as rain showers began
falling at the ½ mile Nelson County dirt oval around 4:45 on Saturday afternoon
after earlier showers had already wet the area. The decision was then made around 5:30 to cancel the event, with
32 Late Models in the pit area at the time of the cancellation and others
parked out in the parking lot.
-For
2006, the event would go on a beautiful Saturday evening that saw the weather
not play a factor in the evening’s activities and Brad Neat of Dunnville, KY
would continue a mid-season hot streak of top finishes as he would claim the
$3,000 payday in the June Jam over Chris Combs, Aaron Hatton, Jason Keltner,
and Mike Jewell.
-Mike
Jewell of Scottsburg, IN would add his name to the list of winners for the June
Jam event in 2007 as the two-time and defending O’Reilly NARA Battle of the
Bluegrass DirtCar Series champion would make this event his first “BoB Late
Model” win of 2007. Jewell would see
the checkered flag first in front of Dustin
Neat, Bryan Barber, Tyrel Todd, and Victor Lee.
-The 2008 June Jam would see a photo-finish as
Eric Wells of Hazard, KY would make a turn four, last lap pass of Jason Keltner
to score his first ever O’Reilly Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series victory
by about three feet at the finish. The
remainder of the top five would be David Webb, Tim Tungate, and Johnny Wheeler.
-The 2009 June Jam would see David Webb of
Nicholasville, KY top a 36 car field after starting 15th in the June
Jam and claim his second career victory at Bluegrass Speedway, worth
$3,000. Brad Neat would take runner-up
honors in the 30 lap event, with Victor Lee scoring a third place finish. Fourth would fall to Mike Marlar, with Jason
Jameson completing the top five in his first ever visit to Bluegrass Speedway.
-The 2010 version of the June Jam would see a
dandy of a battle among the top five in the late stages of the race with Aaron
Hatton coming from 5th place with 10 laps remaining to take his
first-ever Bluegrass Speedway feature event win. Justin Rattliff, Mike Jewell, Steve Barnett, and Dustin Neat
would complete the top five. The National
All Star Racing Association sanctioned the event for the very first time and 32
entries were on hand.
-A total of seventy-five (75) different drivers
have taken the green flag to start the previous June Jam events.
Seven racers made their first June Jam start in
2010. They were Marty O’Neal, Todd
Coffman, Skylar Marlar, Aaron Ridley, Jason Smith, Christian Rayburn, Wesley
Brummett, and Lee Devasier.
-Two June Jam events have been rained out, so
seven have ran up to this point. Dustin
Neat has made all seven June Jam events, while Mike Jewell and Tim Tungate have
made six of the June Jam races. Five
starts in the race go to Aaron Hatton, Victor Lee, Brad Neat, and Johnny
Wheeler. Drivers with four starts in
the June Jam include Bryan Barber, Rick Corbin, Michael Chilton, Jason Keltner,
Tyrel Todd, Jeff Watson, David Webb, and Bobby Wolter, Jr.
-The 2011 version of the June Jam will see the
Southern Regional Racing Series makes its first ever trip to Bluegrass Speedway
to sanction this event. Providing
support division action for the June Jam will be the Clayton Homes of Stanford UMP
Sportsman and UMP Street Stocks.
