Marlar, Wheatley, Cecil, and Edelen Win on “Legends Night” at Bluegrass Speedway

Bardstown, Kentucky-August 30, 2008- Bluegrass Speedway hosted its 4th Annual Legends Night event that honored some of the former racers from around the area and also presented racing action on Saturday evening.  Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN would drive to his fourth 44 Auto Mart Super Late Model feature win, with Jason Wheatley of Loretto, KY racing to his fifth Kentucky Cooperage Modified victory.  Roger Cecil of Bardstown, KY would pick up his fourth WBRT 1320-AM Sportsman feature win of the season, while Willie Edelen of Bardstown, KY would score his third Street Stock feature win for the ’08 season.

Mike Marlar would take the lead at the drop of the green flag in 44 Auto Mart Super Late Model feature action, with Rick Combs, Dustin Neat, Jeff Watson, and Jordan Bland running second through fifth after the first lap.  Neat would take second on lap 2, with Bland coming to third on the same circuit, and James Huff going to fifth.  Marlar would begin working traffic by lap 6, while Bland challenged Neat for second.  By lap 10, Marlar had stretched his lead on out, with three lapped cars between himself and the battle for second.  Watson would slow on the backchute to bring out the caution on lap 11, pull pitside, only to return.  The race would go one more lap before Doodle Farris and Jacob Webber would be involved in an incident in the center of turns three and four, ending both drivers night.  The attempted restart would also come back as seventh place running Bill Blair, Jr. would make contact with the retaining wall in turn two, ending his evening.  Back underway, Marlar would still hold the point, while Combs would drive past Bland for the third position.  Jason Keltner would then challenge James Huff for the fifth spot and would make his way into the top five on lap 15 for the fifth spot.  By lap 20, Marlar would pull away even more from the field, while Bland would challenge Combs for the third slot.  Lap 22 would see Bland grab the third position from Combs and attempt to run down Neat for the runner-up spot.  But at the drop of the checkered flag, it would be Marlar taking the win aboard the Steve Estes owned, K&G Trucking/PBM Performance Products/Dyer’s Top Rods/Bayea/K&N Engineering/Sweet Manufacturing/ Hoosier Tire/VP Racing Fuel/Wayne Bowen Racing Supply/Peterson Fluid Systems/ Braswell Carburetion sponsored #78 C.J. Rayburn Race Cars, Estes Race Engines powered machine.  The remainder of the top five would be Neat, Bland, Combs, Keltner.  Completing the top ten were Lee Devasier, Huff, Bryant Woodcock, Kevin Colston, and Gary Yeager.  Bland was top qualifier, while Watson won the dash, and Bill Blair, Jr. won the heat.

Joe Mattingly would take the lead at the start of the Kentucky Cooperage Modified feature event, only have the action slowed on lap 3 for a spin in turn four by Danny Searcy.  The restart would see second place Jason Wheatley dive under Mattingly entering turn one and slidejob his way to the race lead exiting turn two.  Wheatley would build a bit of a lead until caution waved again on lap 11 for a stop Cy Cundiff at the topside of turn four.  Back underway, Wheatley continued his assault at the point, while Mattingly and Lucas would race side-by-side for several circuits, exchanging the runner-up slot on four occasions at the stripe.  But at the point, it would be Wheatley winning again for the fifth time this season behind the wheel of the Kaylee and Tommy Wheatley owned, B&W Metals/Rosewood Bar and Grill/Gootee and Mattingly Heat and Air/VFM Manufacturing/Central Kentucky Plumbing and Electrical Supply/Cozy Corner/Wheatley Tile Flooring/Wheatley Seamless Gutters/Wheatley Auto Sales/Brady Excavating/Top Notch Landscaping/Springfield Auto and Farm Supply/St. Joe Garage/Nukem Graphics/ Wayne Bowen Racing Supply sponsored #7 Jason Hughes Racing Chassis, Mullins by Wheatley Race Engines powered unit.  Mattingly would win the battle for second with two laps remaining, with Lucas taking third.  Timmy Glazer would turn in a Modified career best fourth, while Jeff Stith rounded out the top five.  Completing the top ten were J.T. Ayers, Randy Turpin, Johnny Lee, Dan Beasley, and Rocky Wilson.  Lucas was top qualifier, with Glazer winning the dash, while Lee won the heat.

The WBRT 1320-AM Sportsman feature event would be the Roger Cecil and Avral Thompson show this pair battled throughout in the 15 lap main event, with Thompson peeking under Cecil on several occasions, but never able to make the pass.  A late race caution would bunch the field up, but Cecil would hold off challenges from Thompson and Pat Hagan and pick up his fourth feature win of the season in his 44 Auto Mart/El Jimador Restaurant/First Financial Credit/Teamsters Local 89/RER Concrete/Cecil Trucking/M&M Get-N-Go sponsored #5 Chevy Monte Carlo, Dale Meers Race Engines powered mount.  Thompson and Hagan would finish second and third, with fourth and fifth at the finish going to Sam Huffer and Rob Jones.  The remainder of the top ten were Eric Pollard, Nathan Wells, Elton Martin, Daroyl Samples, and Grady Moore, Jr.  Heat race checkered flags would fall to Thompson and Cecil.

The 12 lap Street Stock feature event would be a caution-free affair, with Willie Edelen getting out in front never looking back, holding off a hard-charging Robbie Settles to win his third Street Stock feature of the season in the seat of his Edelen Tire and Graphics/ Walker Transmissions/George Mattingly/Wilson Brothers/Seager Enterprises sponsored #K9 Chevy Impala race car.  Settles would settle for second, with Brad Leake turning in another good run to finish third.  Rounding out the top five in the final running order were Justin Trinkle and Shane Lafollette.  Joe David Humphre, John Bryan, Jason Priddy, Joe Walker, and Bryan Derringer would complete the top ten.  Heat race wins were scored by Jason Bartley and Edelen.
