Cecil, Lee, and Hagan Honored at ’09 Bluegrass Speedway Championship
Celebration
Bardstown,
KY-November 14, 2009- Bluegrass Speedway track promoters David and Anita Ferrell
would officially wrap up “Saturday Night Showtime” for the 2009 racing
season on Saturday with its Championship Celebration at Samuels Hall at the
Nelson County Fairgrounds, located next door to Bluegrass Speedway.
Track champions for the 2009 season are David Webb in 44 Auto Mart Super
Late Models, Johnny Cecil in Street Stocks, Benji Lee in Modifieds, and Pat
Hagan in WBRT 1320-AM Sportsman.
David
Webb of Nicholasville, KY was honored as the 44 Auto Mart Super Late Model
division track champion. Webb
participated in thirteen track point events and had nine top five feature event
finishes, along with two feature event checkered flags, with those being the
June Jam and My Old Kentucky Home Shootout.
Webb’s winning championship mount was a C.J. Rayburn Race Car, powered
by a Pro Power Race Engine and received sponsorship from ORS Auto Body and
Collision Center, Valvoline, Eagle One, Marine Works, JDB Contracting, Salyers
Auto and Marine, Dominator Race Products, FSR Radiators, VP Race Fuel, Duralite
Wheels, and PPM Racing Products. This
would be the first Bluegrass Speedway track title for Webb.
Jeff Watson of Campbellsville, KY would be recognized at the ’09 Super
Late Model track championship runner-up, with Jason Keltner of Campbellsville,
KY finishing third in points and scoring one feature win.
Justin Rattliff of Campbellsville, KY would claim fourth place honors in
track points and also score one feature win along the way, while Dustin Linville
of Bryantsville, KY would complete the top five in division points and pick up
one feature event win as well. The
remainder of the top ten in final 44 Auto Mart Super Late Model track points for
2009 were Michael Chilton of Salivsa, KY, Tim Tungate of Campbellsville, KY (one
feature win), Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN (two feature wins), Johnny Wheeler of
Campbellsville, KY, and Mike Jewell of Scottsburg, IN (one feature win).
Daniel Hatcher of Campbellsville, KY was honored as the Norman Copley 44
Auto Mart Super Late Model Rookie of the Year.
Clarence Belcher of Junction City, KY finished second in the rookie
points chase and Aaron Matthews of Munfordville, KY would claim third.
Johnny
Cecil of Balltown, KY was honored as the Street Stock division track champion.
Cecil raced in eleven track point events and finished in the top five in
all eleven events. Cecil would
score three feature event checkered flags over the course of the season behind
the wheel of his M&M Get-N-Go and Craig’s Shoe Store sponsored Ford Crown
Victoria machine. This is the
second Street Stock track title at Bluegrass Speedway for Cecil, having also the
division’s title back in 2004. Timmy
Glazer of Bardstown, KY would be the Street Stock track championship runner-up
with four feature event wins, while Brad Leake of Bardstown, KY would score two
feature wins on his way to a third place finish in points.
Shane Lafollette of Hodgenville, KY would claim the fourth spot in the
final points tally after winning three feature events, with Jason Bartley of
Bardstown, KY rounding out the top five in Street Stock points for the season.
Completing the top ten in final points would be Terry Bartley of
Bardstown, KY, Scott Thompson of Bardstown, KY and Joe Walker of Bardstown, KY
tied for seventh, Willie Edelen of Bardstown, KY and Mike Cozzin, Jr. of Borden,
IN (one feature win).
Benji
Lee of Loretto, KY was honored as the Open Wheel Modified division track
champion. Lee’s season totals
would see the second generation racer compete in thirteen track point events,
with twelve of those starts resulting in top five feature finishes, with a pair
of those top five runs resulting in feature event wins.
Driving a Bandit Race Car powered by a Dale Meers Race Engine, Lee’s
championship winning effort would receive sponsorship from Thompson Heat and
Air, B&B Motorsports, Smart Shoppers, Kirker Automotive Finishes, St. Joe
Garage, Springfield Auto and Farm, and All Star Performance.
This would be the third Modified track title for Lee, having also won the
championships in 2002 and 2006. Michael
England of Glasgow, KY would capture three feature event wins on the way to a
runner-up finish in final Modified division track points, while Dion
Benningfield of Lebanon, KY would drive to a third place points finish.
Two-time and defending track champion Jason Wheatley of Loretto, KY would
finish fourth in points and score five feature wins along the way, with Rocky
Wilson of Hodgenville, KY having his best season to date with a fifth place in
final points. The remainder of the
top ten in points would be Josh Lucas of Bardstown, KY, Adam Cole of
Campbellsville, Randy Turpin of Lebanon, KY and Brad Schlosser of Leitchfield,
KY tied for eighth, and Randall Basham of Radcliff, KY.
Sam Huffer of Elizabethtown, KY was honored as the Modified division
Rookie of the Year, with Gary Parks of Elizabethtown, KY finishing second,
followed by another Elizabethtown, KY native in third in Jeremy Hisel.
Pat
Hagan of New Haven, KY was honored as the WBRT 1320-AM Sportsman track champion
and was also recognized as overall track champion for scoring the most track
points of any driver this season. In
twelve track points events, Hagan would finish in the top five in all twelve
event, scoring seven feature wins along the way, including the win in the Shorty
Gardner Memorial race. Hagan’s
winning Chevy Monte Carlo in owned by Billy Holbert and sponsored by Willard’s
Heat and Air, New Haven NAPA, New Haven Car Wash, New Haven Quick Stop, and
Holbert Auto Recovery. Avral
Thompson of Loretto, KY would be the Sportsman division track championship
runner-up for the second straight seasons and win two feature events along the
way, with Robbie Settles of Bardstown, KY winning two feature events on the way
to a third place finish in points after winning the ’08 Street Stock track
title. Defending Sportsman track
champion Roger Cecil of Bardstown, KY would finish fourth in final track points
and win one feature event, while Rob Jones of Bardstown, KY would complete the
top five in ’09 Sportsman track points. Completing
the top ten for the division would be Jimmy Bryan of New Haven, KY, Barry
Chesser of Bloomfield, KY, Sam Mull of Jeffersonville, IN, Elton Martin of
Magnolia, KY, and Joe Dunbar of Lawrenceburg, KY.
Those
drivers that earned awards for being signed up with the Contingency Connection
program for 2009 included Rob Jones (PX3 Lubricants All Star Winner) and Timmy
Glazer (PerformanceParts.com Performance Club Winner).
The Richmond Gear Weekend Warrior awards went to Ed Behn, Lee Devasier,
Timmy Glazer, Sam Huffer, Rob Jones, and Avral Thompson.
The Hedman Hedders/Trans-Dapt Bonus would go to Thompson, while the JE
Pro-Seal Pistons Sportsman of the Year award went to Huffer.
Legendary chassis builder C.J. Rayburn was also in attendance and
presented gift certificates to the top ten finishers in the track’s Super Late
Model division points.
Bluegrass
Speedway is located at 2221 New Haven Road just outside of historic Bardstown,
KY on KY 31-E at exit 21 of the Martha Layne Collins Parkway.
David and Anita Ferrell are the track promoters and present dirt track
sports entertainment on Saturday evenings from mid-April through September.
