Bluegrass Speedway Kicks Off ’09 Race Season This Saturday April 18

Bardstown, KY-April 12, 2009- After a successful open practice on Saturday evening that saw 31 racers turn laps on the reclayed racing surface, Bluegrass Speedway track promoters David and Anita Ferrell will begin their 10^th season at the promotional helm of the ½ mile high-banked clay oval as the 2009 racing season officially gets underway with the ’09 season opening event this Saturday evening April 18.        

The Saturday April 18 season opening event will officially kick off the 15^th season of competition at Bluegrass Speedway and will feature a full program of weekly racing series action that will include Super Late Models, Open Wheel Modifieds, Sportsman, and Street Stocks.  The Super Late Model feature will be 25 laps and pay $1,000 to win and the Modified division will go 20 circuits in their main event for $500 to win.  The Sportsman and Street Stocks will also compete, with the 15 lap Sportsman feature paying $200 to win and the 12 lap Street Stock feature paying $100.  At the April 18 racing program, the Super Late Model and Modified divisions will time trial, while the Sportsman and Street Stock division will pill draw for heat race starting positions.      

Activities for the Saturday April 18 season opening event will see all functions begin one hour earlier, with the pit area opening at 3:00 p.m. and the grandstand area opening at 4:00 p.m.  A mandatory drivers meeting will take place at 5:00 p.m., with practice laps set to begin at 5:30 p.m.  Time trials will get underway at 6:00 p.m., while racing will take the green flag for the first time in 2009 at or before 7:00 p.m.  General admission in the grandstand area will be $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12, and children under age 6 are free.  A pit pass will be $25.     

The 2008 track champions at Bluegrass Speedway were Dustin Neat of Dunnville, KY in 44 Auto Mart Super Late Models, Jason Wheatley of Loretto, KY in Kentucky Cooperage Modifieds, Roger Cecil of Bardstown, KY in WBRT 1320-AM Sportsman, and Robbie Settles of Bardstown, KY in Street Stocks.
