Dustin
Linville Nabs NASRA Jerry Ross Memorial Win at Bluegrass Speedway
Bardstown,
KY-August 15, 2009- C.J. Rayburn’s National All Star Racing Assocition would
make its first ever visit to Bluegrass Speedway on Saturday evening and Dustin
Linville of Bryantsville, KY would park his machine in victory lane as the
winner of the 30 lap, $3,000 to win Jerry Ross Memorial event.
Other feature winners for the evening included Johnny Cecil of Bardstown,
KY in Street Stocks and Avral Thompson of Loretto, KY in WBRT 1320-AM Sportsman.
The
drop of the green flag in the NASRA Late Model Jerry Ross Memorial main event
would see Dustin Linville take the race lead, followed by Scott James, Mike
Jewell, Justin Rattliff, and Victor Lee. Lee
would take fourth from Rattliff on lap 2 and immediately challenge Jewell for
third, while James would ride a car length and half off of leader Linville’s
rear bumper. With James utilizing
the “diamond” line in the corners to challenge Linville for the lead, Lee
would mount a run on Jewell for third and take the spot on lap 6.
James would turn the heat up in his challenge for the lead on lap 9 as
the duo raced side-by-side for the lead down the backchute and James would
momentarily take the lead off of turn two on lap 10, but the caution would wave
for a stopped Michael Chilton in turn four, negating the pass for the lead by
James. The restart would see a
massive tangle in turn four that involved seven cars and draw a red flag, as the
racing surface would be blocked, with Bobby Wolter, Jr., Tim Tungate, Audie
McWilliams, Mike Marlar, Wayne Chinn, Greg Johnson, and Dustin Neat all
involved, with the machines of Wolter, Jr., Chinn, Johnson, and Neat all unable
to continue. The restart would see
one more circuit completed before Johnny Wheeler would spin in turn four, with
Terry English being charged with helping Wheeler spin, thus, English would have
to report to the rear of the field for the restart.
Back underway, James would attempt to claim the top spot again from
Linville, but the James mount would slow entering turn one on lap 12 and roll
pitside with mechanical issues. As
the field received the halfway signal on lap 15, Linville was beginning to
stretch his lead over now second place Lee, with Jewell, Rattliff, and 19th
starting Johnny Wheeler racing for third, fourth, and fifth.
Linville would start the process of working slower traffic on lap 21,
while Jewell would reel in second place Lee and that pair would begin to battle
for second. Jewell would take the
runner-up slot on lap 23 and by lap 25 would begin to reel in race leader
Linville a bit. But Linville would
crank it up another notch and hold Jewell at bay to claim the $3,000 payday and
his first ever Bluegrass Speedway victory in the Terry Linville, Bruce Barnes,
and Budda DirtCars owned Barnes and Davis Family Dentistry/Linville’s Finish
Carpentry/Paul Benton Auto Body/ Budda DirtCars/Bert Transmissions/Cookie
Monster Power Plants/BG Oil/Lanes Precast/ Lester Grider Trucking/Hoosier Tire
sponsored #D8 C.J. Rayburn Race Car, Mike Bullock Race Engines powered entry.
Jewell would take second, with Lee rolling home third, while Rattliff and
Wheeler would complete the top five. The
remainder of the top ten would be 15th starting Mike Marlar, David
Webb, Jeff Watson, Aaron Ridley, and Todd Coffman.
Webb would be top qualifier among 29 entries, with heat wins falling to
Linville, James, and Rattliff. Wheeler
would win the B-Main, while provisional starters were Christian Rayburn (series)
and Ed Behn (track).
Timmy
Glazer would lead the 12 lap Street Stock feature until the midpoint of the race
when he would pull his mount pitside, handing the lead over to Johnny Cecil.
Cecil would then have to stave off the challenges of fellow Ford
competitor Shane Lafollette over the final five laps, but Cecil would be up to
the challenge and put his M&M Get-N-Go/Craig’s Shoe Store sponsored #69
Ford Crown Victoria in victory lane. Lafollette
would finish a close second, followed by Brad Leake, Joe Walker, and Mike Cozzin,
Jr. Completing the remainder of the
finishing order would be Fred Mercer, Glazer, Jason Bartley, and Scott Thompson.
Lafollette would be top qualifier among 10 entries, with Walker winning
the dash, while Leake would win the heat.
The
15 lap WBRT 1320-AM Sportsman feature would see three-wide action for the lead
during the first two laps of the event before Avral Thompson would emerge as the
race leader and drive away from the field to score his second win of the season
in the Backyard Bounce/Teamsters Local 89/Thompson Heat and Air/El Jimadore
Mexican Restaurant/Hawk’s Place/Cozy Corner/High Grove Grocery/Cox Wrecker
Service/ Nalley’s Exhaust sponsored #44 Chevy Malibu.
Second place would fall to Robbie Settles, with Pat Hagan, Barry Chesser,
and Jimmy Bryan completing the top five. The
remainder of the finishing order would be Sam Mull, Joe Dunbar, Elton Martin,
and Rob Jones. The heat win would
be claimed by Thompson as well.
