Barber Bags 9th Annual Bluegrass Rumble Victory at Bluegrass Speedway
Bardstown,
KY-July 25, 2009- The Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series presented by
Graphic Impressions visited Bluegrass Speedway on Saturday evening and Bryan
Barber of Greensburg, KY would score the 9th Annual Bluegrass Rumble
victory and pick up a $1,500 payday for his efforts.
In other action, Tim Tungate of Campbellsville, KY would drive to his 29th
career 44 Auto Mart Super Late Model feature victory, while Brad Leake of
Bardstown, KY would claim his first-career Street Stock feature event win.
After two starts called back by caution flags, one for Don Adams making contact with the turn two wall and for a spin by Kelly Warren, action would get going with Michael England taking the lead in a three-wide battle off of turn two, followed by Bryan Barber, Benji Lee, B.J. McCammon, and Joey Kramer. Kramer would win a three-wide battle on lap 2 to take the third position before action would be slowed again for the final time for Adam Cole, who rolled his mount to a stop on the frontchute on lap 4. The restart would see England stay on the point, holding a slight advantage over Barber, while Kramer would stave off challenges from Lee as the front five remained the same through lap 10. By this point, England and Barber were putting some distance on third place Kramer and looked to have intentions on settling the issue among themselves. Meanwhile, Russ Gabbert was charging his way to the front and would take the fifth slot from McCammon on lap 14. The lead duo of England and Barber would begin to work traffic as the halfway signal was displayed. Barber would turn the heat up on England as the pair battled in traffic. Barber would slidejob past England to momentarily take the race lead, but England would battle right back to nip Barber at the line on lap 19, before Barber would return the slider and take the lead for good on lap 20. With Barber putting some distance between himself and England by lap 23 and working heavy traffic, Dennis Roberson would drive his machine into fifth on the high-side by moving past Gabbert. The front five would remain the same of the final few circuits, with Barber extending his lead even more before the drop of the checkered flag, followed by England, Kramer, Lee, and Roberson. Barber’s victory would come in the seat of his Roby’s Country Gardens/B&B Motorsports/ All Star Performance/Frankland Racing Equipment sponsored #10 Bandit Race Cars, Jay Dickens Race Engines powered machine. The remainder of the top ten would be Russ Gabbert, Jason Wheatley, B.J. McCammon, Justin Houston, and Jason Hall. In preliminary action, Michael England was Racing Optics top qualifier among 29 entries with a lap time of 17.066 seconds. REAL Racing Wheels qualifying heat events would be garnered by England, Kramer, and Barber. Wheatley would win the B-Main, with series provisionals falling to Randall Basham and Adam Cole, while Brad Schlosser would be the track provisional.
The 44 Auto Mart Super Late Model feature event would see David Webb take the lead at the drop of the green flag at the end of lap one by just a car length over Tim Tungate, followed by Jeff Watson, Jason Keltner, and Dustin Neat. Tungate would take the lead from Webb on the high-side of turn two on lap 2, with Watson winning a three-wide battle with Neat and Keltner to hold on to third, as Neat would take fourth. As Tungate and Webb attempted put some distance on Watson, Lee Devasier would make his into the top five by getting by Keltner on lap 4. The front duo of Tungate and Webb would open their advantage over Watson even more by lap 6, as Neat closed in on Watson and that pair would battle wheel-to-wheel for the third position before Neat would claim the spot on lap 9. The race leaders began working traffic on lap 11 and Webb would pull along Tungate, but could not muster the power to execute the pass. As Tungate and Webb continued the battle for the point, the remainder of the top would string out a bit at this point until a caution waved on lap 18 for debris on the track from Terry Keltner’s entry. The restart would see Webb dive beneath Tungate in turns one and two and lead momentarily, only to have Tungate back in front and the line, while Devasier would work past Watson for fourth. The final caution would appear on lap 19 as Johnny Wheeler would roll to stop on the backchute. The front five would remain the same after the final restart and Tungate would roll to career win #29 at Bluegrass Speedway aboard the Logan and Jane Parrott owned, Campbellsville University/Darrell Morrison Mechanical/Osborne Construction/
