Bluegrass Speedway Set to Begin 2009 Racing Season on Saturday April 18

 

Bardstown, KY-March 14, 2009- Track promoters David and Anita Ferrell will begin their 10th season at the promotional helm of Bluegrass Speedway as the 2009 racing season will get underway on Saturday April 18 with a full program of weekly racing series action for the Super Late Models, Modifieds, Sportsman, and Street Stocks divisions, with the 2009 track championship points chase also getting underway that same evening.

 

But before the green flag flies for real on the new season, there will be an open practice day at Bluegrass Speedway on Saturday April 11 from 6:00 p.m. to 10 p.m., with gates opening at 4:00 p.m. that day.  It will be an important practice day as it will be the first laps the racers will get on the over 140 new loads of red clay that have been applied to the racing surface at the ½ mile high-banked Nelson County oval that will begin its 15th season of dirt track sports entertainment in 2009 with a 16-event schedule that is chocked full of special events for all divisions.

 

The Super Late Model division will have several special events throughout the course of the ’09 racing season.  The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will again sanction the track’s signature event, the 9th Annual Bluegrass Classic, on Saturday August 29, paying $10,000 to win and with the cameras of SPEED TV in attendance to tape the action.  The Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series Super Late Model will sanction four events of “Saturday Night Showtime” in 2009.  The 12th Annual Spring Sizzler, paying $3,000 to win, goes on April 25, with the 8th Annual June Jam taking place on June 13, paying $3,000 to win.  The 11th Annual Kentuckiana Klash will go green on July 11, paying $5,000 to win, while the 11th Annual Bluegrass 50 will move to August for the very first time on August 1 and pay $5,000 to win in front of the television cameras of the Outdoor Channel.  Other Super Late Model special events for ’09 include the 6th Annual Jerry Rucker Memorial event on May 9 and the 7th Annual My Old Kentucky Home Shootout on June 27, with both of those events paying $2,000 to win.  The Super Late Models will also sport the convertible look with the track’s 6th Annual Topless Terror Night on July 4.  Dustin Neat of Dunnville, KY is the 2008 Bluegrass Speedway Super Late Model track champion.

 

The Modified division will have three extra money paying events over the course of the 2009 race season, with a pair of those events being sanctioned by the Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series.  The first “BoB Mod Squad” event will take place on May 16 and will be the 9th Annual Mod Squad Bash, paying $1,500 to win, with the other BoB-sanctioned event taking place on July 25, that being the 9th Annual Bluegrass Rumble, also paying $1,500 to win.  An unsanctioned Modified event that will pay $1,000 to win has been added to the Bluegrass Speedway for August 15 as well.  The Modifieds will also be a part of the 6th Annual Topless Terror Night on July 4, also sporting the convertible look.  Benji Lee of Raywick, KY is the 2008 Modified track champion at Bluegrass Speedway.

 

The Sportsman division will again be in action at Bluegrass Speedway in 2009 with the top event for this division set for June 20, with the contesting of the 6th Annual Shorty Gardner Memorial, paying $500 to win for the Sportsman division.  The full-fendered stock car division will also pay $400 to win as a special event on the 2009 season finale night on September 26.  The Street Stock division will also be back in action at Bluegrass in 2009 as the entry-level division of stock cars at Bluegrass Speedway with a pair of $300 to win events scheduled for May 23 and September 19.  Roger Cecil of Bardstown, KY is the 2008 Sportsman track champion and Robbie Settles of Bardstown, KY is the ’08 Street Stock track champ.
