Tungate,
Thompson, Glazer, and Wheatley Honored as 2010 Bluegrass Speedway Track
Champions
Bardstown,
KY-November 4, 2010- Bluegrass Speedway track promoters David and Anita
Ferrell officially finished the 2010 racing season at Bluegrass Speedway on
Sunday afternoon October 31 as the track held its annual championship
celebration that honored the top ten points racers in each division, while
also celebrating the division’s four track champions for the 2010 racing
season.
In the 44
Auto Mart Super Late Model division, Tim Tungate of Campbellsville, KY was
honored as the division’s track champion. Tungate competed in all
fifteen track points events, winning one feature event along the way and
scoring a total of six top-five feature event finishes. Tungate’s
track title at the ½ mile high-banked clay oval is his third at the track to
go along with 30 career wins at the track as well, ranking him first on the
division’s all time win list. Tungate would win his third track title
at Bluegrass Speedway aboard the J and L Motorsports owned Campbellsville
University/Rick-Rod Oil Company/Barnes Auto Sales/Wilson Plumbing/L&R
Dozing/Rodgers Salvage/Oil Country Auto Sales, Victor E. Designer

Race Car, powered by a Dan Sturgeon Race Engine. Another Campbellsville,
KY native, Jeff Watson, would finish as the division’s track championship
runner-up for the second year in a row, grabbing two feature wins during the
season. Former two-time track champion Dustin Neat of Dunnville, KY was
third in Super Late Model track points, taking three feature wins along the
way. Lee Devasier of Crestwood, KY would finish fourth in the final
division points tally, while Aaron Hatton of Mount Sterling, KY would complete
the top five in the class, scoring one feature event win. The remainder
of the top ten in 44 Auto Mart Super Late Model track points would be Justin
Rattliff of Campbellsville, KY, Jarryd Holshouser of Boaz, KY, Johnny Wheeler
of Campbellsville, KY, Tim Rivers of Salem, IN, and Mike Jewell of Scottsburg,
IN. Also recognized was the Norman Copley Super Late Model Rookie of the
Year award winner and that honor was taken by Wesley Brummett of Harrodsburg,
KY.
Avral
Thompson of Loretto, KY was honored as the WBRT 1320-AM UMP Sportsman division
track champion. It is the first Sportsman division track championship
for Thompson, who previously won the track’s Street Stock track championship
in 2006. Thompson’s championship run was a mark of consistency as he
did not win a feature event, but scored a total of nine top five feature
finishes in the twelve track points event, including finishing in the second
position on five occasions. Thompson would win his first Sportsman
division track title in the seat of his Hawk’s Place/Thompson’s Heat and
Air/Teamsters Local 89/Cox Wrecker Service/High Grove Grocery/Nalley’s
Exhaust/ Cozy Corner sponsored #44 Chevy Malibu machine. Former division
track champion Barry Chesser of Bloomfield, KY would finish in the runner-up
position in the division track points, winning three feature event during the
course of the season. Billy Meredith of Hodgenville, KY would finish
third in the WBRT 1320-AM UMP Sportsman division track points while also
scoring three feature event wins during the season. Tim Cummings of
Shepherdsville, KY would place fourth in the division’s top ten point
netters, while Derek Bottoms of Taylorsville, KY would complete the top five
for the class. Robbie Settles of New Hope, KY would head up the second
five in division points, followed by Pat Hagan of New Haven, KY, Sam Mull of
Jeffersonville, IN, Roger Cecil of Bardstown, KY, and Wayne Hager of
Nicholasville, KY.
In the
UMP Street Stock division, Timmy Glazer of Bardstown, KY was honored as the
2010 division track champion. Glazer would wage a very spirited points
battle with Shane Lafollette of Hodgenville, KY throughout the entire 2010
race season, winning the points battle on the final night of competition by
just a mere seven points. Glazer would win four feature events along the
way to his second track (previous division champion in 2007) title in the
class, scoring eight top five feature finishes along the way. Glazer has
a total 13 career feature victories in the class, ranking him second place on
the division’s all-time win list. Glazer’s championship winning
mount would be a Chevy Monte Carlo and carry sponsorship from Cecil
Transmissions and Sam Murphy Race Engines. Lafollette would finish as
the division championship runner-up, having also won four feature events
during the season. Joe Walker of Bardstown, KY would finish third in the
division’s final points listing, while Bobby Settles of Bardstown, KY would
grab a fourth place points finish in his first season of action. Scott
Beeler of Louisville, KY would finish fifth in points and score one feature
event win. Terry Bartley of Bardstown, KY would finish sixth in points,
while Fred Mercer of Louisville, KY and Jason Bartley of Bardstown, KY would
finish in a tie for the seventh position. Roy Skaggs of Campbellsville,
KY and Mark Filiatreau of Cox’s Creek, KY would complete the top ten in
division points.
Jason
Wheatley of Loretto, KY would be honored as the track’s 2010 UMP Modified
track champion and overall track champion for scoring more track points than
anyone at the track this season. Wheatley’s third track title in the
last four years at the ½ mile speedplant came on the heels of five feature
event wins and never finishing worse than third position in a feature event.
Wheatley would also finish fourth in Kentucky state UMP Modified points and
would finish 25th in the final UMP Modified national points tally.
It was the third overall division track championship at Bluegrass Speedway for
Wheatley, who has 30 career feature event wins at Bluegrass, ranking him
second on the division’s all-time win list. Wheatley’s championship
winning drive came behind the wheel of the Kaylee and Tommy Wheatley owned St.

by a Mullins Race Engine. Former three-time and defending division track
champion Benji Lee of Loretto, KY would finish as division runner-up, scoring
three feature event wins along the way. Brad Schlosser of Leitchfield,
KY would have his best season to date at Bluegrass Speedway with a third place
points, while Michael England of Glasgow, KY and Adam Cole of Campbellsville,
KY would tie for the fourth position in final points, with England taking one
feature win. The remainder of the top ten in final UMP Modified track
points would be Gary Parks of Elizabethtown, KY, Josh Lucas of Bardstown, KY,
Dion Benningfield of Lebanon, KY, Randy Turpin of Lebanon, KY, and Jeff Stith
of Louisville, KY.
All track
employees that were present were recognized for their dedication and hard work
throughout the season. To conclude the awards ceremony, track co-promoter
David Ferrell announced that he and wife Anita would return as track promoters
at Bluegrass Speedway for the 2011 racing season, with basically the same
rules for all divisions, with racing set to begin in mid-April 2011.
