Bluegrass Speedway’s NASRA 13th Annual Spring Sizzler Goes on April 24
Bardstown, KY-April 15, 2010- Bluegrass Speedway track promoters David and Anita
Ferrell are set to present their first special event of the 2010 racing season
on Saturday April 24 with the running of the 13th Annual Spring Sizzler at the
˝ mile high-banked Nelson County racing facility.
The National All Star Racing Association will be at Bluegrass Speedway for the
13th Annual Spring Sizzler event which will take place on Saturday April 24.
There will be a full program of practice, time trials, qualifying heats,
B-Mains, and the 30 lap, $3,000 to win 13th Annual Spring Sizzler A-Main for the
National All Star Racing Association Late Models. Also in competition on the
April 24 racing program will be a full program of weekly racing series action
for UMP Modifieds ($600 to win) and UMP Street Stocks ($100 to win), while the
UMP Sportsman will have the evening off. For the April 24 Spring Sizzler event,
the National All Star Racing Association Late Models and UMP Street Stocks will
time trial, while the UMP Modifieds will pill draw for heat race starting
assignments.
Activities for the April 24 Spring Sizzler will see all events begin one hour
earlier, with the pit area opening at 3:00 p.m., while the general admission
area will open at 4:00 p.m. A mandatory drivers meeting will take place at 5:00
p.m. Practice will begin at 5:30 p.m., with time trials at 6:00 p.m., followed
by the first official green flag of the season with racing at or before 7:00
p.m. All times are EDT. Ticket prices on April 24 will $15 for adults, $8 for
children ages 6 to 12, and children under age 6 free in the general admission
area. A pit pass will cost $30.
The Spring Sizzler event has been on the Bluegrass Speedway schedule since 1998
and has been contested on twelve previous occasions, with six different winners,
and two rainouts. Mike Hawley of Paint Lick, KY was the inaugural event winner
back in 1998, while Terry English of Benton, KY would take the race victory in
1999, with Rick Corbin of Independence, KY bringing in the 21st century with a
win the 2000 contest. Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN would begin a string of
three straight wins in the Spring Sizzler by scoring the event victories in
2001, 2003, and 2004, with Mother Nature the only one to slow O’Neal down
during this run by raining out the 2002 event. Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, IL
would outlast the competition to grab his only win in the race in 2005, while
Mother Nature would again win the event in 2006 after it was rescheduled three
times and finally cancelled. Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN is currently the man to
beat at this race, as the “Winfield Warrior” has collected the last three
straight wins in the Spring Sizzler from 2007 through 2009.
Bluegrass Speedway is located at 2221 New Haven Road at the intersection of
Kentucky Highway 31-E and exit 21 of the Martha Layne Collins (Bluegrass)
Parkway. David and Anita Ferrell are the track promoters and present dirt track
sports entertainment on Saturday evenings from mid-April through September. For
