Bluegrass Speedway Presents 12th Annual Bluegrass 50 for $5,000 to win August 7
Bardstown, KY-July 29, 2010- Bluegrass Speedway track promoters David and Anita
Ferrell will return with racing action to the ½ mile, high-banked Nelson County
clay oval on Saturday August 7 as the track presents the 12th Annual Bluegrass
50, paying $5,000 to win for the 44 Auto Mart Super Late Models.
On Saturday August 7, the 44 Auto Mart Super Late Models will headline the
racing card with a full program of practice, time trials, qualifying heats,
B-Mains, and the 50 lap, $5,000 to win 12th Annual Bluegrass 50 A-Main. Also in
competition at Bluegrass Speedway on August 7 will be the UMP Modiifeds racing
for $500 to win and WBRT 1320-AM UMP Sportsman racing for $200 to win, while the
UMP Street Stocks are off. For the August 7 racing event, the Super Late Model
and UMP Sportsman divisions will time trial, while the UMP Modifieds will pill
draw for heat race starting assignments. Also of note, the Super Late Model
division will not have a dash, as everyone will run a heat race event and the
Super Late Model top qualifier will draw after time trials on the frontchute to
see what (if any) inversion will take place in the heats.
Activities for the August 7 racing program will see the pit area open at 4:00
p.m., with the general admission area opening at 5:00 p.m. A mandatory drivers
meeting will take place at 6:00 p.m. Practice will begin at 6:30 p.m., with time
trials at 7:00 p.m., followed green flag race action at or before 8:00 p.m. All
times are EDT. Ticket prices on August 7 will be $20 for adults, $10 for
children ages 6 to 12, and children under age 6 free in the general admission
area. A pit pass will cost $35.
The 12th Annual Bluegrass 50 feature payoff is as follows: 1st- $5,000, 2nd-
$2,500, 3rd- $2,000, 4th- $1,500, 5th- $1,000; 6th- $750, 7th- $650, 8th- $550,
9th- $500, 10th- $450, 11th- $425, 12th- $400, 13th- $375, 14th- $350, 15th-
$340, 16th- $335, 17th- $330, 18th- $325, 19th- $320, 20th- $315, 21st- $310,
22nd- $305, 23rd- $300, 24th- $300. There is no entry fee for Super Late Models
for this event and the Hoosier only track tire rule will apply.
The Bluegrass 50 first appeared on the Bluegrass Speedway schedule during its
first season back in 1995 and John Gill of Mitchell, IN won the event that took
place on the first Saturday night in October. From 1996 to 1999, the event would
not be on the track’s schedule, but would return in 2000, with Kevin Claycomb
of Vincennes, IN taking the win. Darrell Lanigan of Union, KY would dominate the
race for the next three years, winning in 2001, 2002, and 2003. Brad Neat of
Dunnville, KY would stop Lanigan’s streak by grabbing the race win in 2004.
John Gill would become the only other repeat winner of the race as he would
visit victory lane in 2005. A pair of Tennessee natives would grab the next two
events, with Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN winning the 2006 race, while Mike Marlar
of Winfield, TN would take the win in 2007. The television cameras of the
Outdoor Channel would tape the 2008 event that saw Jason Keltner of
Campbellsville, KY pick up the biggest win of his career in the event. Victor
Lee of Danville, KY would make a turn two last lap pass to grab the win in the
2009 event and is the defending race champion.
Bluegrass Speedway is located at 2221 New Haven Road at the intersection of
Kentucky Highway 31-E and exit 21 of the Martha Layne Collins (Bluegrass)
Parkway. David and Anita Ferrell are the track promoters and present dirt track
sports entertainment on Saturday evenings from mid-April through September. For
